Hi Friend,

We’ve said it once, and we’ll say it again: parking requirements are bad for housing. We wrote about it in the LA Times and made this infographic to explain.

So this week, we’re sending a message to the LA City Council: remove parking minimums from the North Westwood Village Specific Plan. This recommendation has already been made by the North Westwood Neighborhood Council. This change would make building more housing units in California’s most expensive rental market much more affordable, and would further encourage a shift away from car dependency.

Say no to parking minimums in Westwood

Also this week: the LA County Board of Supervisors is meeting tomorrow at 9:30a to discuss more crisis response measures. We commend their proactive measures thus far, but renters across the county are still in need of protection. We’re joining the #HealthyLA coalition in calling for the Board to expand the eviction moratorium to every city in the county, and to allow those cities to go further.

Join us in making this call. Click here to find your supervisor and for a script you can use to send our message.

Have you registered for our virtual panel on Wednesday? Actress and activist Sophia Bush will be moderating our all-star panel of experts to discuss how the COVID-19 outbreak is impacting housing. She’ll be joined by Tanya Tull of Partnering for Change, Jessica Malaty Rivera of the COVID-19 Dispersed Research Network, Susan Park from Asian Americans for Housing, and our very own Managing Director Leonora Camner.
