AHLA: Attend the Venice Housing Happy Hour on Wednesday!

Thanks to your advocacy, SCAG is adding transit, proximity to jobs, and housing costs as factors in the Regional Housing Needs Assessment (RHNA) allocation! This is a major pro-housing and pro-environment win for the region.

Action Item for This Week: California’s Density Bonus Law encourages the development of much needed affordable and senior housing, including the right to build up to 35% more homes than allowed under local development codes.

Today, we are supporting a new development in Tarzana that takes advantage of the Density Bonus, creating 59 homes, including 7 for Very Low Income Households.

This Ventura Boulevard development has a Walk Score of 70 and most errands can be accomplished on foot. Multiple bus routes run along the street, with direct service to Universal City Metro Station, CBS Studio Center, Cal State Northridge, and Taft High School.

Thank you to Mayor Garcetti for telling SCAG we need a better RHNA methodology. The Mayor says RHNA should prioritize housing production near jobs and transit and in wealthier, higher opportunity areas.

In other news, California lawmakers are moving to reinstate a local affordable housing program that was eliminated during the state’s budget crisis eight years ago. But it’s uncertain if Governor Newsom will sign off on the plan.
