Action Item for This Week: Today, we have an opportunity to preserve 80 existing affordable homes and add 161 new market-rate homes in Calabasas.

The Avalon Calabasas project will maintain 80 affordable homes set at rent-restricted rates for at least 55 years, revitalize trails adjacent to the Las Virgenes Creek, and fund the Community 360 Counseling Center which offers student mental health services.

TOC is Working and Can Be Improved

Since Transit Oriented Communities (TOC) was launched in 2017, over 20,000 new homes have been proposed or permitted, including nearly 4,000 that will be affordable to low-income renters.

Read our blogpost on three ways we can improve TOC:

1. Allow TOC projects on residential land near rail that’s currently restricted to single-family homes and duplexes.

2. Make areas near Orange Line stations and high-frequency buses eligible for TOC.
