Now that the votes are finally in, here’s an update on Abundant Housing’s endorsed candidates and ballot measures in the 2022 general election.
We endorsed 30 candidates and 2 ballot measures.
Both of our endorsed ballot measures—Los Angeles Measure ULA, which created a city transfer tax to fund affordable housing and homelessness prevention, and Pasadena Measure H, which created rent stabilization and just-cause eviction protections for tenants—passed.
Three of the four city- or county-wide candidates we endorsed won. We look forward to working with mayor Karen Bass, city controller Kenneth Mejia, and sheriff Robert Luna.
Lindsey Horvath will be a great partner at the LA County Board of Supervisors.
Every one of the candidates we endorsed for state legislative office won their races. We are excited to enact positive change in Sacramento with Juan Carrillo, Laura Friedman, Mike Fong, Rich Chavez Zbur, Isaac Bryan, Tina McKinnor, and Sharon Quirk-Silva in the Assembly and Caroline Menjivar, and Lola Smallwood-Cuevas in the State Senate.
Two of the three LA City Council candidates we endorsed won. Katy Young Yaroslavsky and Hugo Soto-Martinez will bring badly-needed pro-housing leadership to Los Angeles city government.
Moving down to the smaller cities, Rex Richardson won his race for Long Beach Mayor, Jesse Zwick and Caroline Torosis will serve on Santa Monica City Council, Freddy Puza will be on Culver City Council, Nikki Perez and Tamala Takahashi will serve on Burbank City Council, and Triston Ezidore will be on Culver City School Board.
Now the real work begins!
