Congratulations – thanks to your advocacy, SB 330 passed the Senate on Friday, and Governor Newsom has pledged to sign it into law!
Action Item for This Week: Last week, the City of LA moved forward with a plan to ban street sleeping across much of the City, including within 10 feet of a driveway or building entrance and within 500 feet of a park or school.
The ban will leave almost no safe space for individuals experiencing homelessness even as the City lacks adequate shelter— there are only 10,000 shelter beds to accommodate over 36,000 houseless Angelenos.
By applying new and complex restrictions, this law will increase the number of confrontations between LAPD officers and unhoused Angelenos.
Let’s tell the City to focus less on enforcement and more on providing housing and transitional services.
After you write to City Council, RSVP for next week’s Advocacy and Public Comment Training in Culver City on Tuesday 9/17. |
