Hi Friend,

We don’t have to tell you how difficult this pandemic has been for millions of Californians. We also don’t have to tell you how bad our housing crisis really is.

And in the middle of all of this, private “governments” like homeowners’ associations can literally enact rules that ban outright the ability for tenants to live in their neighborhoods and developments. This is terrible for renters or would-be renters, and terrible for a California overwhelmed by a housing shortage.

We’re sending letters to our state senators in Sacramento, urging them to vote YES on AB 3182, which would this bill would say that any provision of the governing documents of a common interest development, such as an HOA, is void and unenforceable if it prohibits tenants from occupying the home.

Actually, we can predict homelessness

“Each additional percent of income spent on rent by severely impoverished Los Angeles households predicts an additional three percent growth in the number of people experiencing homelessness.”

Our Policy & Research interns David Edimo and Robert Lynn-Green dive into data on affordability, and what it means for homelessness in LA.
