Long Beach City’s Final Housing Element will be voted on next Tuesday, 11/16 by City Council. The final housing element still has some flaws that need to be brought to their attention. We need you to tell the City Council to make the changes listed below.

  • The housing element encourages little new housing in northeast Long Beach, where incomes and overall access to resources are high.  Instead, the plan would concentrate on affordable housing opportunities in lower-income areas with poor environmental quality.

  • The housing element doesn’t do enough to make housing easier, faster, and less expensive to build.

  • The housing element doesn’t pare back exclusionary zoning practices or apartment bans, which make it more difficult for most Long Beach residents to access affordable housing in high-resource neighborhoods.
