Action alert: support legalizing housing and public parks on public golf courses
  • California is home to *921* public and private golf courses, each one often consuming about *100 acres* of land. Golf courses are not accessible public space. They are not public parks that serve all neighbors, but rather specialized sports fields that only serve people who golf. According to the National Golf Foundation, only 7% of Americans played golf on a course in 2019.
  • AB 1910 would create an opportunity for local governments that own golf courses to open the land up to a more inclusive set of uses, including housing, income-restricted affordable housing, and truly public open space. This is not the end of golf in California – it is an optional opportunity that only affects public golf courses. Support AB 1910 today!
UC Berkeley narrowly avoids turning away 3000 admitted students following CEQA lawsuit:

SBN argued that the university violated CEQA by increasing enrollment beyond the growth projected in the 2005 EIR. Trial court ruled in favor of Berkeley, but SBN appealed and won. Last week, the CA Supreme Court upheld the appellate court’s decision. As a result, Berkeley initially stated they will reduce new enrollment by 3000 students. But over the weekend, the university appears to have found ways to accommodate all admitted students. Read more here
