Tonight! From Ally to Advocate: A Reckoning with Racism

In honor of Black History Month, we are partnering with Safe Place for Youth and Climate Resolve to host the second session of our “From Ally to Advocate” series! This takes place on Thursday, February 11th from 6:00 – 7:30 pm. Our guest speakers are Roderick Hall, Director of Organizing with Abundant Housing LA, and Chase Engelhardt, Climate Resilience Coordinator with Climate Resolve. We’ll be discussing historic redlining on the Westside, the environmental impact this has on our unhoused neighbors who are disproportionately BIPOC, as well as what folks can do about it. We hope to see you there!

“From Ally to Advocate” is a series sponsored by Safe Place for Youth. This series creates a safe space for SPY Volunteers and the community at large, where they can get educated, collaborate, and advocate on systemic issues facing SPY Members. The only requirement is to come with an openness to learn. Everyone and anyone is welcome!

When: Feb 11, 2021 06:00 – 07:30 PM Pacific Time (US and Canada)
Register in advance for this meeting

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

Undesign the Redline Virtual Exhibit – Feb 17, 6–8 pm

This Saturday!

Join us for the next Housing 101!

This is a great opportunity to learn more about AHLA and what we’re about. Luke Klipp, our Education Director with urban and transit policy experience, will lead a presentation and discussion.

Come meet other AHLA members, find out what you can do to get involved, and learn about some of the issues and history involved with the advocacy work we do. The event occurs every month. We hope to see you there!

Black History Month Auction

On the last day of Black History Month, we will be auctioning off 24×36 frames of the artwork we displayed throughout the month. Each portrait will begin at $50, a discounted rate compared to the rate the artist typically sells at. We hope that you and your network can join us, all proceeds will go towards Abundant Housing LA as we continue the fight to end the legacy of redlining and housing discrimination.
