Single-family zoning is at the root of a lot of our housing challenges. It has ensured that entire neighborhoods remain exclusionary; only those who can afford homes in those neighborhoods can live there.
Who are generally less able to afford them? You guessed it: communities of color.
Senate Bill 1120 would facilitate duplex construction in single-family areas. It also protects renters by exempting properties that currently restrict rents to levels affordable to households of moderate, low, or very low income.
