Action Item for This Week: Renters’ Right to Counsel (RTC) levels the playing field: 90% of tenants facing eviction do not have legal representation while 90% of landlords do.
In New York City, after the first full-year of RTC, 84% of tenants who had a lawyer under RTC remained in their home, and evictions across the city fell by 14%.
Ensuring that renters facing eviction benefit from legal counsel reduces the number of evicted tenants who experience homelessness.
We demand a right to legal representation for all tenants facing eviction in the City and County of Los Angeles!
After you sign the petition, invite a friend to the Westside Happy Hour on Thursday, and Housing 101 on Saturday. |

What’s Everyone Talking About?
AHLA Supports the Culver City 12-Month Rent Freeze. We submitted support for the rent freeze, and it’s now moving forward!
Right-to-Shelter Debate. A right-to-shelter would force cities to construct enough shelter beds so that any person experiencing homelessness requesting to come indoors can do so. But is this the right approach, or should advocates focus on a Right to Housing instead, which argues for homes as a solution instead of shelters?
